hope and becoming

‘hope and becoming’ is a testament to the beauty and necessity of change for queer individuals. using my gender queer, lesbian friend, Ada, as a muse, I explore these themes through a synthesis of textiles and moving image.

this project is deeply inspired by my relationship with ada, who I consider to be my platonic soulmate. We often go on walks together along the Thames path, and this tradition was started on the 20th of April, 2024. On this day, Ada and I walked along the Thames Path, through to Barnes and then across Richmond Park (totalling roughly 30,000 steps). As we walked, the two of us spoke about our experiences specifically relating to our queer identities, and for the first time in our lives, we felt truly seen. That experience was really moving, and felt spiritual (so much so that we refer to that walk as our ‘pilgrimage’. Since then, we have grown as individuals, and we notice the subtle changes in ourselves every time we see each other.
